Merry surfing Xmas!

Hello surfers,

after a nice surf session at El Cotillo beach we are ready for some xmas celebration here on the north shore of Fuerteventura.

The next few days are going to be busy cause we will be visited by a lot of new and old surfers who decided to spend the xmas holiday under the african sun :). It's gonna be fun!!!

Our best wishes for a merry xmas and a great 2012 from the Home Grown team!!

Winter in Fuerteventura: waves, sand and sun!

Hello everybody!

Due to a short trip to the U.S. I haven't uploaded new pix since a few. Sorry for that.

Anyway, November it's almost at its end, and despite it's supposed to be low season we have been very busy at the Home Grown surf camp.

Probably more and more people know that winter in Fuerteventura means wearing flip flops and sunbathing on our beautiful beaches after a surf session!

In the last weeks the conditions have been pretty classic: the group of the intermediate surfer have surfed the reef breaks on the north shore and the ones at their first experience have had the first surf lesson on some of easier beach break around Corralejo and the sand dunes park.

Today in particular the north shore was really on fire and some guys scored really good waves!

As usual i post some shots...I hope you like them!

For the ones just left the Island and the surf camp, good bye and see you soon on the line up!

Autumn in Fuerte!

Hello surfers,

september has come and already 3 big swells have hit the island in the last 20 days! All the reef breaks of the north shore were back on fire as well as the Island of Lobos with its long and perfect right hander!

The guys and the girls at the Home Grown surf school with more experience on the board could surf the reef in really good and clean conditions and the ones who were at their first try have been brought to the sand dunes and to the other beaches along the east coast.

Nothing else to say, the waves are breaking good today, so it's time to go surfing!

September sessions..

Hola everybody!

I can without any doubt say that this summer was absolutely a blast! We had good waves, fantastic weather, good parties and, most important, we had the pleasure to host and teach people from almost all over the world, from New York to Sydney from Rome to Oslo!

The busiest moment of the year seems to be over now, even though the surf Camp "Casa Hilda" is pretty full.

These first days of september are giving us the first waves on the north shore making us looking forward to the winter!

Hello surfers!

Busy times here at the Home Grown surf camp. So sorry for not updating the blog that often.

We are surfing a lot the east coast of Fuerteventura in some of the most beautiful surroundings of the island like the golden beaches in the sand dunes natural park in Corralejo. The more experienced are still going to the North Shore to surf the reef breaks that still work in summer.

The town of Corralejo (where the surf camp is) is full with surfers and tourists, this means that for the more hard-party guys and girls the nights are always too short.

As usual, here you have few pics of the last weeks.

Summer time in Fuerteventura!

It's already two days the temperature during the day is above 35 ° due to the warm Kalima wind coming straight from Africa, from where we are just 90 kms far!

The good thing is we have almost endless beaches to get refreshment and of course waves ti surf!!

As usual here some pix of the last few days with the Home Grown surf school.

For the first time I post also a picture of myself working:) Thanx to my good friend and good photographer Axel Piperno for the photo!

PS: tonight is the San Juan night and as tradition almost in every beaches there will be bonfires and people jumping in the water under the moon light!

Winter waves in Summer!!

Hallo everybody,

here is Mauro with the usual update from the Home Growners in Fuerteventura!

The last days, a big swell blessed our coastline giving us the opportunity to surf the famous winter breaks wearing just our bath shorts!

At the Home Grown surf camp, the intermediate group had the chance to get some nice rides on some of the easier reef break on the North Shore of the Fuerte and for whom was at its first experience we had nice a gentle conditions on the beach breaks on both side of the Island!

Waves, waves and again waves!

Hallo everybody,

very busy days at the Home Grown headquarter.

A big group of 18 guys and girls from The Netherland filled in our surf camp for the last week and without any doubt they have enjoyed some sunny days of good waves!

We are now getting ready for the summer that is announced to be one of the best of the last few years.

The ocean is still pushing waves on the north shore of the Island making the famous reef breaks working as it usually happens in winter.

That's just a small update from Fuerteventura. Let the images speak.

Hallo surfers,

after some weeks of traveling in Asia I'm back in Fuerte and already busy in shooting with the guys at Home Grown Surf School!

The last days have been very cool at Casa Hilda with girls and boys coming from Italy, Spain, Germany, Holland, Belgium etc etc...

So, from now onward, expect some more new pictures every week on this pages, like the one you can see below from the past days on the beach.

Hallo guys,

if the new year will continue like it started we really can't complain. Waves, waves and again waves! The conditions along the coastline of Fuerte have been epic, with good waves, off shore wind and summer like temperature!

At Home Grown surf camp the xmas holidays went very well. Casa Hilda has been fully booked for nearly all december with people coming from all over to spend some days under our african sun and also to have crazy party during the spanish night in the clubs and bars of Corralejo!

Hallo everybody,

the news we read on the newspapers are all about freezing temperature and airports closed for the snow. Something very distant from the daily routine in Corralejo where you can easily still find people surfing in shorts and sun bathing on our beautiful beaches.

Our Big Wednesday

Last wednesday was really a Big Wednesday. A big swell hit the north shore of Fuerteventura putting on fire all the reef breaks here in Corralejo Bay!

We had some great waves with the guys attending the Home Grown surf school that made everybody go to bed with a smile on their face.

Hallo everybody,

as usual some news and images from our island. The first big ground swell hit Fuerteventura the last week giving everybody the pleasure to surf great waves with a light off-shore wind enjoying the still warm water of the ocean.

Casa Hilda, the Home Grown surf camp is still pretty busy with boys and girls from all over the world (last days we had people from Australia and New Zealand!!) enjoying the good vibes and the good waves of the island.

The good effects of the Hurricane

Hola everybody!

The big storm caused by the Hurricane Igor thousands of kms away are now effecting our island with good and consistent waves!

Even if we are almost at the end of september our surf camp is still full of nice guys and girls from all over the world with the common aim of discovering what we can do better: surf!

August it's almost over and the first big swell is on its way to hit our coasts within the next hours!! With a period of 18 seconds and with the very warm water that now blesses our spots we all are gonna have great sessions the next days!

Hallo everybody!

Summer is at its best and is blowing our islands with crazy parties at night and warm waves during the day! Next days a new swell is going to hit the eastern part of the island, so stay tuned for more pictures!

The Homegrown homebase (Surfshop, Surfschool and Surfcamp) is situated in the North of the island right at the centre of Corralejo. This is the best part of the island to surf. The Homegrown Shop and Surfschool with Surfcamp was founded in 1995.

Fuerteventura is blessed with good weather and consistent waves all year round, so you can book your holiday whenever you want. Fuerte has the longest beaches of the Canary Islands, but with the lowest population density. Only a small straight separates Fuerteventura from the African continent.

Surfcamp!

Summer, Sun, Beach,Sand and new Friends...... SURF IT!

The European Hawaii. That's what insiders call Fuerteventura. The easiest way to catch your first wave is to take part at the Homegrown Surfschool.

We offer you a unique surfing experience in a safe and friendly environment. All equipment, surfboards and wetsuits are of the best quality. Being a totally mobile Surfschool we offer transportation in our Surfvehicles (4X4 Land Rovers to get you off road!!) to a variety of the finest beachbreaks of Fuerteventura. Our courses suit all levels and age groups.

You can book the courses with or without accommodation and you can start the course every day of the year (except the 1st of January).

Official Surfschool:

HOMEGROWN IS AN OFFICIAL SURFSCHOOL OF THE CANARY SURFING FEDERATION.
This guarantees that our Surfschool offers:

licensed surfteachers (who obtain also a license of lifeguard)
first class surf equipment for all levels (beginner, intermediate and advanced)
insurance
maximum 8 students per instructor (from 9 students, 2 instructors)
the Surfschool is approved by the local authorities

Level 1: Surfcourse for beginners:

Ready to learn how to catch your first waves?! Here everybody is a beginner, nothing to be ashamed of. You will go surfing everyday and you will make daily progress in your surfing, so after this 6 days course you will be a real surfer. (Also possible to book for a 3 day or 1 day surfcourse, but for a successful evolution in your training we recommend a 6 day course or even better a 2 week course)

A 6 day beginner surfcourse looks like this:

1st day

Warm-up and stretching
Introduction of surf equipment
Board handling at shore/ water
Explaining safety rules
Balance on surfboard
Gliding in whitewater (lying)
Try to take your first wave (standing)

2nd day

Paddling technique
Take-off technique in whitewater
Theory and practical at the shore
Take-off technique correction

3rd + 4th day

Theory and practical at the shore
Individual take-off correction
Turning the board (frontside)
Aceleration/stalling techniques
How to get to the line-up
Paddling into the line-up using the diving technique

5th + 6th day

Theory and practical at the shore
Take off in green waves
Turning the board (backside)
Paddling for green waves
Straight Take off
Take off Frontside/Backside

Level 2: Surfcourse for the intermediate surfer:

If you already did a surfcourse before, but you want to improve your skills and style, or simply want to surf in a good and safe atmosphere, then this is the level for you.
The surfteachers will evaluate your skills and you will improve your surf learning new tricks.
When you book for an intermediate course you will surf custom made surfboards and have the chance to try different types of boards depending on the waves and your level. This course takes place at the same beaches as the beginners course.

In a 6 day intermediate course you will improve your:

Paddling technique
Take off in green wave
Surfing frontside and backside
Backside railgrab
Duckdive, eskimoroll
Bottomturn
Cutback
Surf shortboards, malibus and longboards

Where do we go surfing?

With our 4X4 Land Rovers we have the opportunity to go to 6 different beachbreaks (playa cotillo, playa esquinzo, playa de las mujeres, playa tubaderas, playa morro, playa blanca) and 1 reefbreak (rockypoint). We are searching daily for the best conditions and waves according to your level.
